Delete your account

Before you start

Settle up first. Expenses, splits and settlements in a group belong to that group's shared ledger, and deleting your account does not cancel money you owe or are owed. If you still have balances, settle them (or agree with the other members how they'll be handled) before requesting deletion.

Want a copy of your records? Open any group, choose Settings → Export as CSV, and save the file before you delete anything.

How to request deletion

Email hello@expenddy.com from the email address on your Expenddy account, with the subject “Account deletion request”. Tell us the name on the account so we can find it.

We'll confirm the request came from you, then delete the account within 30 daysand email you when it's done. If your account has no email address on it — a phone-only account — write from any address and include the phone number, and we'll verify it another way before deleting anything.

What gets deleted

• Your account: name, email address, phone number, password hash and login credentials.
• Your profile photo and any receipt images you uploaded.
• Your personal spending and income records — these are private to you and are removed outright.
• Your 1:1 friend ledgers and the contacts you saved in them.
• Your notification preferences and push notification tokens.
• Any pending group invitations addressed to you.

What has to stay, and why

Some records are not only yours. An expense you added to a group is part of that group's ledger for every other member: erasing it would silently change what other people owe each other, months or years after they relied on it.

• Shared group expenses, splits and settlements remain in the groups they belong to, so the other members' balances stay correct and explainable.
• Where we can do so without corrupting those balances, your entries are disassociated from your account and your name is removed from them.
• Audit records of money-affecting actions are retained for as long as the transactions they describe, so a disputed balance can still be explained.
• We keep whatever a law obliges us to keep, for as long as it obliges us to keep it.

Alternatives to deleting

• Just want fewer emails? Turn off the monthly summary and any push categories in Settings → Notifications, or use the unsubscribe link in any summary email.
• Done with one group? Open it and choose Settings → Leave group. Settle your balance there first — leaving doesn't clear it.
• Want to correct something instead? Your name, email, phone and currency are all editable in Settings.
