Terms of Service
Last updated: 9 August 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Detsol, the operator of Expenddy. By creating an account or using Expenddy — the website, the mobile apps, or the API — you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
1. What Expenddy is — and isn't
Expenddy is a record-keeping tool. It helps you and the people you share costs with agree on who spent what and who owes whom. It is not a bank, a payment service, a money transmitter or a lender. Expenddy never moves money. When you mark a balance as settled, you are recording that a payment happened somewhere else — in cash, by bank transfer, or however you actually paid.
Debts between you and other people are between you and them. We are not a party to them, we do not guarantee them, and we cannot enforce or collect them.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your country, if higher) to use Expenddy.
- Give accurate details, and keep your email address or phone number current — they're how you recover access.
- Keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access.
- One account per person. Don't impersonate anyone or sign up on someone else's behalf without their permission.
3. Your content, and other people's
You keep ownership of everything you put into Expenddy. You give us the permission we need to host, store, process and display it in order to run the service — including showing it to the other members of a group you add it to.
Shared records are shared. An expense you add to a group becomes part of that group's ledger for every member. Other members can see it, and the group's history — including expenses you created — remains part of their records even if you later leave or delete your account.
When you add someone else's email address or phone number, you confirm you are entitled to share it with us for the purpose of inviting them.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Expenddy for anything unlawful, or to launder money or disguise the source of funds.
- Upload content that is illegal, abusive, harassing, hateful, or that infringes someone else's rights.
- Send unsolicited invitations in bulk, or use the invitation system to spam people.
- Attempt to access accounts, groups or data that aren't yours, or probe, scan or overload the service.
- Scrape the service, or use automated systems against it, other than through an interface we provide for that purpose.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract source code, except to the extent the law says you may.
- Resell or commercially redistribute the service without our written permission.
5. Accuracy of balances
Expenddy calculates balances from what you and the other members enter. If someone enters the wrong amount, forgets an expense, or records a settlement that never happened, the balances will be wrong — and we have no way of knowing. Check your records, and treat them as a shared bookkeeping aid rather than a definitive statement of a legal debt.
6. Service availability and changes
We aim to keep Expenddy available and working, but we don't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may add, change or remove features, and we may suspend the service for maintenance. Where a change is significant and we can reasonably give notice, we will.
The mobile apps enforce a minimum supported version. Very old versions may stop working until updated.
7. Price and advertising
Expenddy is currently free to use. It may show advertising, and we may introduce paid features in future — if we do, we'll make clear what is paid before you are charged anything.
8. Ending your use
You can stop using Expenddy at any time and ask us to delete your account (see Delete your account). Leaving a group or closing your account does not cancel money you owe or are owed — those are obligations between you and the other people involved, so settle them directly.
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, that is being used unlawfully, or where we are required to by law. Where it's reasonable to do so, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to put it right.
9. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Expenddy is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will meet your requirements or that any calculation, record or figure it displays is accurate, since those depend on what users enter.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or amounts you fail to recover from another person. Our total liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim, or USD 50.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, you keep any statutory rights that apply to you.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your misuse of the service, your breach of these terms, or your infringement of someone else's rights.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date above and, for material changes, tell you in the app or by email. Continuing to use Expenddy after a change means you accept the updated terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Detsol is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts of that jurisdiction have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory rules of the country where you live.
